Pros and Cons of Entrance Exam

Entrance exam is conducted by educational institutes for selecting students for different courses or degrees. Though these examinations can be conducted at any level of education but primarily they are administered at higher levels.

Entrance exam across the world are considered as a visa to step into elite institutions offering professional courses. It is possible for students to pass academic year with minimum marks but in an entrance exam one needs to work really hard to break through the competitive environment successfully. Only those with systematic planning and meticulous training are able to crack these exams.

As it is with everything, entrance exams also have its own pros and cons. Let’s have glimpse over these major points of these exams:

Pros of Entrance Exam:

    * Entrance exam evolve self-high esteem among those students who otherwise suffer from low morale. Even if one has done just moderate performance in his academic studies, he still has an opportunity to make up with entrance exam. Once the student gets success in this exam, it raises his self esteem.
  
 * Entrance exams make it sure that only capable and able brain get the right opportunity. These exams act like filters.

    * Potential students are chosen via entrance exam that in turn further prove helpful in the development of the country.

    * A good performer in the entrance exam becomes the inspiration of other students too and encourages them to take part in the competitive environment of these exams and thus brings them closer to education.

 Cons of Entrance Exam: 

    * Entrance examinations have enabled the mushrooming of coaching institutes in every corner. Most of them are cashing students instead of guiding them proper manner.

    * Coaching institutions have turned education into business where the motive is to earn maximum bucks. Not only this, they also supposed to each students about short-cuts instead of encouraging them to gain sufficient knowledge. Consequently, these aspirants may end up as good students but not as good professionals.

    * Entrance exams have increased the burden of students who are already so occupied in dealing with highly competitive environment of today’s education. This can result into total loss or lack of interest in studies. Even worst is that there are students who succumb to this pressure and end up taking their own lives or hurting themselves.

Several studies have revealed the fact that pressure of getting good score in highly competitive entrance exam is causing more and more psychological problems in today’s youth. There is so much that they need to deal with on regular basis. They need to go to school, finish their homework and prepare for weekly or monthly evaluation tests. Not only this, they need to join coaching centers to cover their weak points. Considering all these, it is easy to understand that today’s students have hardly any time to indulge themselves in any kind of healthy or fun based activates. They are always under the pressure by their parents or teachers to perform the best in their exams and this trend of remaining ahead never stops.
